Another approach is to either receive the data units or distribute the replies on a serialby-bit basis to the different terminals. This process is repeated for each terminal. One way in which this may be accomplished is to connect a terminal to the computer until an indication is received that a complete message has been transferred. Since, in most such applications, the central computer is time shared, some efficient means must be provided for applying inquiries and data to the central computer and for disseminating the replies generated by the computer to the various remote terminals. Each of the remote teerminals may or may not have its own smaller computer system.
